Sack Kraft Paper Market Size in Ghana

In 2022, the Ghanian sack kraft paper market decreased by -16.9% to $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year rising trend. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate significant growth. Sack kraft paper consumption peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.

Exports from Ghana

In 2022, the amount of sack kraft paper exported from Ghana reduced rapidly to X tons, waning by -51.1% compared with 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 207% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then declined dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, sack kraft paper exports reduced sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 318%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.

Exports by Country

Togo (X tons) was the main destination for sack kraft paper exports from Ghana, with a approx. 100% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Togo was relatively modest.

In value terms, Togo ($X) also remains the key foreign market for sack kraft paper exports from Ghana.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Togo totaled +11.9%.

Export Prices by Country

The average sack kraft paper export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average export price increased by 36%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Togo.

From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Togo amounted to +11.7% per year.

Imports into Ghana

In 2022, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of sack kraft paper, when their volume decreased by -6.5% to X tons. In general, imports, however, saw a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 85% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, sack kraft paper imports fell sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 119%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Russia (X tons) constituted the largest sack kraft paper supplier to Ghana, accounting for a 68% share of total imports. Moreover, sack kraft paper imports from Russia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Spain (X tons), threefold. Brazil (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 7.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Russia stood at +23.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+51.1% per year) and Brazil (+22.2% per year).

In value terms, Russia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of sack kraft paper to Ghana, comprising 64% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Spain ($X), with a 25% share of total imports. It was followed by Brazil, with a 6.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Russia stood at +20.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+50.4% per year) and Brazil (+20.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average sack kraft paper import price amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -15.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a slight downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 48% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then shrank dramatically in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per ton), while the price for Brazil ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sweden (+1.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
