Seat Market Size in Ghana

The Ghanian seat market surged to $X in 2021, picking up by 31% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). In general, consumption, however, showed a abrupt downturn. Seat consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports from Ghana

After two years of growth, overseas shipments of seats decreased by -37.7% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a moderate expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 4,284% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2020, and then dropped sharply in the following year.

In value terms, seat exports declined notably to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a deep contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 431% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Burkina Faso (X tons) was the main destination for seat exports from Ghana, accounting for a 25% share of total exports. Moreover, seat exports to Burkina Faso exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Benin (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Rwanda (X tons), with a 0.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Burkina Faso stood at +8.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Benin (+54.3% per year) and Rwanda (+37.4% per year).

In value terms, Burkina Faso ($X) remains the key foreign market for seats exports from Ghana, comprising 94% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Benin ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by the United States, with a 17% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Burkina Faso amounted to +5.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Benin (+57.8% per year) and the United States (+16.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average seat export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 947% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Niger ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Rwanda ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Niger (+38.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Ghana

In 2021, the amount of seats imported into Ghana expanded rapidly to X tons, growing by 6.3% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, imports, however, showed a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 37%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, seat imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a mild curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 98% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

China (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and the UK (X tons) were the main suppliers of seat imports to Ghana, with a combined 46% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the United Arab Emirates (with a CAGR of +35.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.

In value terms, the largest seat suppliers to Ghana were the United Arab Emirates ($X), China ($X) and the UK ($X), together accounting for 34% of total imports.

The United Arab Emirates, with a CAGR of +55.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2021, the average seat import price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price posted a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 207% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the price for the UK ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
