Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, semiconductor device exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 748% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Burkina Faso (X units) was the main destination for semiconductor device exports from Ghana, accounting for a 59% share of total exports. Moreover, semiconductor device exports to Burkina Faso exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Cote d'Ivoire (X units), threefold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Burkina Faso totaled -24.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Cote d'Ivoire (+6.0% per year) and the Netherlands (0.0% per year).
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for semiconductor devices exports from Ghana, comprising 47% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Cote d'Ivoire ($X), with a 5.7% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to the Netherlands was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Cote d'Ivoire (-16.1% per year) and Burkina Faso (-21.7% per year).

In 2021, the average semiconductor device export price amounted to $X per unit, surging by 1,123% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a significant increase. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Burkina Faso ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Burkina Faso (+4.3%).

Imports into Ghana
In 2021, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of semiconductor devices, when their volume decreased by -13.3% to X units. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 545% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, semiconductor device imports shrank significantly to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 313%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Turkey (X units), the UK (X units) and Malaysia (X units) were the main suppliers of semiconductor device imports to Ghana, together accounting for 93% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Turkey (with a CAGR of +49.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Canada ($X), Turkey ($X) and the UK ($X) appeared to be the largest semiconductor device suppliers to Ghana, with a combined 71% share of total imports.
Among the main suppliers, Turkey, with a CAGR of +47.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average semiconductor device import price stood at less than $X per unit in 2021, reducing by -2.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price faced a dramatic contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average import price increased by 26% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($X per unit), while the price for Turkey (less than $X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
