Spark Plug Market Size in Ghana

In 2022, the Ghanian spark plug market decreased by -12% to $X for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a strong expansion. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

After two years of decline, shipments abroad of sparking plugs increased by 45% to X units in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a sharp contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 3,619%. The exports peaked at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, spark plug exports expanded notably to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 2,508%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Cote d'Ivoire (X units), Belgium (X units) and Nigeria (X units) were the main destinations of spark plug exports from Ghana, together accounting for 94% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Cote d'Ivoire (with a CAGR of +31.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, the largest markets for spark plug exported from Ghana were Nigeria ($X), Cote d'Ivoire ($X) and Belgium ($X), with a combined 98% share of total exports.

The average spark plug export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, which is down by -23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 126% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2021, and then declined sharply in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Burkina Faso ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Nigeria (+25.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Ghana

In 2022, supplies from abroad of sparking plugs decreased by -10.2% to X units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 299%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X units in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, spark plug imports reduced to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 200% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X units) constituted the largest supplier of spark plug to Ghana, with a 74% share of total imports. Moreover, spark plug imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United Arab Emirates (X units), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Germany (X units), with a 7.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China amounted to +50.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+18.3% per year) and Germany (+25.5% per year).

In value terms, the largest spark plug suppliers to Ghana were China ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Germany ($X), with a combined 92% share of total imports.

China, with a CAGR of +27.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average spark plug import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, waning by -3.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 8% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while the price for China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+5.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
