In 2022, the Ghanian telephone apparatus market increased by 24% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw a perceptible curtailment. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.

Exports from Ghana

In 2022, overseas shipments of telephone apparatus increased by 16% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a perceptible shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 195%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, telephone apparatus exports declined remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 603%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Hong Kong SAR (X tons) was the main destination for telephone apparatus exports from Ghana, with a 214% share of total exports. Moreover, telephone apparatus exports to Hong Kong SAR exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Netherlands (X tons), fourfold. Canada (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 35% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Hong Kong SAR totaled +13.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (+3.3% per year) and Canada (+85.0% per year).

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the key foreign market for telephone apparatus exports from Ghana, comprising 61% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Hong Kong SAR ($X), with a 22% share of total exports. It was followed by Canada, with a 3.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to the Netherlands stood at +7.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hong Kong SAR (-5.9% per year) and Canada (+120.4% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the average telephone apparatus export price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 94% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the average export price increased by 139% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mali (+155.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Ghana

In 2022, supplies from abroad of telephone apparatus increased by 25% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 80%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, telephone apparatus imports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 74% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, China (X tons) was the main supplier of telephone apparatus to Ghana, accounting for a 93% share of total imports. Moreover, telephone apparatus imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Sweden (X tons), with a 5.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +9.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-2.6% per year) and Sweden (-10.9% per year).

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China amounted to -1.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hong Kong SAR (+1.6% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-7.3% per year).

In 2021, the average telephone apparatus import price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 27% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a pronounced downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 84% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while the price for South Africa ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
