Exports from Ghana
In 2022, approx. X units of trucks were exported from Ghana; surging by 24% compared with 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 229%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, truck exports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 76% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Togo (X units), Benin (X units) and Cote d'Ivoire (X units) were the main destinations of truck exports from Ghana, together comprising 92% of total exports. These countries were followed by Burkina Faso, which accounted for a further 8.3%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Burkina Faso (with a CAGR of +11.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Togo ($X), Benin ($X) and Cote d'Ivoire ($X) were the largest markets for truck exported from Ghana worldwide, with a combined 88% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Burkina Faso, which accounted for a further 12%.
Burkina Faso, with a CAGR of +3.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average truck export price amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 32% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average export price increased by 811% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2019 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Togo ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Cote d'Ivoire (+1.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Ghana
In 2022, imports of trucks into Ghana fell to X units, dropping by -8.7% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, imports showed a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 342% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, truck imports declined to $X in 2022. Overall, imports showed a abrupt decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 110% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, the United Arab Emirates (X units) constituted the largest truck supplier to Ghana, with a 85% share of total imports. Moreover, truck imports from the United Arab Emirates exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X units), more than tenfold. South Korea (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 2.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from the United Arab Emirates totaled +34.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (-20.1% per year) and South Korea (-27.3% per year).
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constituted the largest supplier of trucks to Ghana, comprising 64% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 2.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the United Arab Emirates amounted to +26.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (-8.0% per year) and Germany (-19.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average truck import price amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -6.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a moderate expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 138%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per unit), while the price for Togo ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
