The exports peaked at X litres in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, non-mineral or non-aerated water exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 324%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Togo (X litres) was the main destination for non-mineral or non-aerated water exports from Ghana, accounting for a 39% share of total exports. Moreover, non-mineral or non-aerated water exports to Togo exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Germany (X litres), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by the Netherlands (X litres), with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Togo amounted to -7.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (-11.5% per year) and the Netherlands (-7.0% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for non-mineral or non-aerated water exported from Ghana were Italy ($X), Germany ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), with a combined 43% share of total exports.

Italy, with a CAGR of +343.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.

In 2021, the average non-mineral or non-aerated water export price amounted to $X per litre, jumping by 16% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw perceptible growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the average export price increased by 141% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

After two years of growth, purchases abroad of non-mineral or non-aerated waters decreased by -26.7% to X litres in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 174%. Imports peaked at X litres in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, non-mineral or non-aerated water imports dropped to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a mild slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 110% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

The United States (X litres), Norway (X litres) and the Netherlands (X litres) were the main suppliers of non-mineral or non-aerated water imports to Ghana, together comprising 80% of total imports. These countries were followed by Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates and Turkey, which together accounted for a further 8.5%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Indonesia (with a CAGR of +380.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
