The global variable capacitor market fell rapidly to $X in 2022, shrinking by -20.7% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, posted buoyant growth. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the global market remained at a lower figure.

The United States was also the fastest-growing in terms of the variable capacitors exports, with a CAGR of -12.5% from 2020 to 2022. China (-24.2%), Taiwan (Chinese) (-26.4%), Singapore (-39.5%), Japan (-40.7%), Switzerland (-65.9%) and Hong Kong SAR (-69.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The United States (+22 p.p.), China (+2.9 p.p.) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+2.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global exports, while Hong Kong SAR and Switzerland saw its share reduced by -13.7% and -14.3% from 2020 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest variable capacitor supplying countries worldwide were the United States ($X), Switzerland ($X) and Japan ($X), with a combined 71% share of global exports.

Among the main exporting countries, the United States, with a CAGR of +35.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average variable capacitor export price amounted to $X per unit, growing by 78% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 92%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Iran (with a CAGR of +2,390.7%), while imports for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United States ($X), China ($X) and Malaysia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 42% share of global imports. South Korea, Taiwan (Chinese), Indonesia, Vietnam, Ecuador, Peru, Colombia, Iran, Venezuela and Nigeria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 14%.

Vietnam, with a CAGR of +27.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average variable capacitor import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, picking up by 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, faced a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 5,617% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per unit), while Nigeria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
