In value terms, carbon electrode exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a noticeable expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 135% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the global exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
China dominates exports structure, recording X tons, which was near 71% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Norway (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons), together mixing up a 13% share of total exports. Iceland (X tons), Spain (X tons), Poland (X tons) and France (X tons) took a little share of total exports.
Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, the Netherlands (+27.3%), Iceland (+20.4%), Poland (+7.2%), Norway (+4.5%) and France (+1.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Netherlands emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +27.3% from 2012-2022. Spain experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of China (+10 p.p.), the Netherlands (+4 p.p.) and Iceland (+1.9 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest carbon electrode supplier worldwide, comprising 56% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Spain ($X), with an 8.1% share of global exports. It was followed by France, with a 6.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in China stood at +9.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Spain (+2.9% per year) and France (+5.6% per year).

The average carbon electrode export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 10% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a slight setback. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +23.0% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 58% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of global imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, carbon electrode imports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a measured expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 144%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of global imports failed to regain momentum.

The countries with the highest levels of carbon electrode imports in 2022 were Iceland (X tons), Norway (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Russia (X tons), Iran (X tons), the United States (X tons), Sweden (X tons), Canada (X tons), India (X tons), Turkey (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Bahrain (X tons), together recording 77% of total import. In value terms, the largest carbon electrode importing markets worldwide were Iran ($X), Canada ($X) and Iceland ($X), together comprising 28% of global imports. The United Arab Emirates, Norway, the United States, Russia, Turkey, Italy, Germany, India, Sweden and Bahrain lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 41%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Bahrain, with a CAGR of +20.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average carbon electrode import price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 3.1% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period.
