The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the production volume increased by 9.1% against the previous year. In 2021, overseas shipments of unroasted decaffeinated coffee were finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. In general, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 10% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the global exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, unroasted decaffeinated coffee exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a slight downturn. Over the period under review, the global exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Germany dominates exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was near 55% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Vietnam (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Canada (X tons), together creating a 26% share of total exports. Mexico (X tons), Honduras (X tons) and Peru (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from Germany decreased at an average annual rate of -2.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Vietnam (+13.8%), Canada (+10.3%), Honduras (+8.7%), Spain (+5.4%) and Peru (+4.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +13.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Mexico (-5.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Vietnam (+6.7 p.p.), Canada (+4.5 p.p.), Spain (+3.2 p.p.) and Honduras (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global exports, while Mexico and Germany saw its share reduced by -3.2% and -13.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest unroasted decaffeinated coffee supplier worldwide, comprising 52% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Canada ($X), with an 11% share of global exports. It was followed by Spain, with an 8.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Germany stood at -3.8%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Canada (+8.1% per year) and Spain (-1.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average unroasted decaffeinated coffee export price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 16% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a slight contraction. The global export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Canada ($X per ton), while Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (-0.6%), while the other global leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2021, the amount of unroasted decaffeinated coffee imported worldwide reached X tons, surging by 4.4% on 2020. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 7.1%. Global imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, unroasted decaffeinated coffee imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a slight curtailment. Over the period under review, global imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
The United States represented the key importing country with an import of around X tons, which recorded 46% of total imports. Spain (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 17% share, followed by Switzerland (6.1%) and the Netherlands (5.4%). The following importers - Mexico (X tons), the UK (X tons), France (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) - together made up 11% of total imports.
The United States experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of unroasted decaffeinated coffee. At the same time, the Netherlands (+115.4%), Mexico (+98.1%), South Korea (+25.4%), Spain (+12.4%), the UK (+7.7%) and Switzerland (+1.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Netherlands emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +115.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, France (-10.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Spain (+10 p.p.), the Netherlands (+5.4 p.p.), Mexico (+4.4 p.p.) and South Korea (+1.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the global imports from 2012-2021, the share of France (-4 p.p.) and the United States (-9.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United States ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported unroasted decaffeinated coffee worldwide, comprising 49% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Spain ($X), with a 10% share of global imports. It was followed by Switzerland, with an 8.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in the United States totaled -2.6%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+6.8% per year) and Switzerland (-1.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average unroasted decaffeinated coffee import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 12% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a noticeable decrease. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while Mexico ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
