In value terms, eggplant exports fell modestly to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the global exports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then declined slightly in the following year.

In 2022, Spain (X tons), distantly followed by Mexico (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Turkey (X tons) and the United States (X tons) represented the main exporters of eggplants (aubergines), together comprising 72% of total exports. The following exporters - Iran (X tons), Honduras (X tons), Belgium (X tons), China (X tons), France (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) - together made up 14% of total exports.

In value terms, Spain ($X) remains the largest eggplant supplier worldwide, comprising 36% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Netherlands ($X), with a 17% share of global exports. It was followed by Mexico, with a 15% share.

Global imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, the United States (X tons), distantly followed by Germany (X tons), France (X tons), Iraq (X tons), the UK (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Canada (X tons) were the major importers of eggplants (aubergines), together making up 64% of total imports. The Netherlands (X tons), Singapore (X tons), Russia (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Austria (X tons) and Azerbaijan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Azerbaijan (with a CAGR of +47.0%), while imports for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United States ($X), Germany ($X) and France ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 39% of global imports. The UK, Iraq, Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, Russia, Belgium, Austria, Singapore and Azerbaijan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 42%.
Azerbaijan, with a CAGR of +53.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average eggplant import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 17% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
