Crude Groundnut Oil Market Size

The global crude groundnut oil market stood at $X in 2022, rising by 3.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw a perceptible decline. Global consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, crude groundnut oil production rose notably to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, recorded a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 37%. Global production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, shipments abroad of crude groundnut oil decreased by -51.8% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year rising trend. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 106%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then shrank dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, crude groundnut oil exports dropped remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 79%. The global exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank significantly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Brazil was the major exporting country with an export of about X tons, which resulted at 45% of total exports. India (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 24% share, followed by Argentina (14%) and Nicaragua (7.2%). Senegal (X tons) and Iraq (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Iraq (with a CAGR of +82.1%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest crude groundnut oil supplying countries worldwide were Brazil ($X), India ($X) and Argentina ($X), together comprising 85% of global exports. Nicaragua, Senegal and Iraq lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 11%.

Among the main exporting countries, Iraq, with a CAGR of +66.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average crude groundnut oil export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 44% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the average export price increased by 48%. The global export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while Iraq ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Argentina (-1.3%), while the other global leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2022, after five years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of crude groundnut oil, when their volume decreased by -11% to X tons. In general, imports, however, posted a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 23%. Over the period under review, global imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, crude groundnut oil imports declined to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, posted a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 61% against the previous year. Global imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

Imports by Country

China was the major importing country with an import of about X tons, which reached 68% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Italy (X tons) and the United States (X tons), together creating an 18% share of total imports. The Netherlands (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and France (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

Imports into China increased at an average annual rate of +14.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, the Netherlands (+59.8%), the United States (+14.0%) and Italy (+2.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Netherlands emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +59.8% from 2012-2022. Belgium experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, France (-9.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of China, the Netherlands and the United States increased by +25, +4.1 and +2.8 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, China ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported crude groundnut oil worldwide, comprising 67% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Italy ($X), with a 10% share of global imports. It was followed by the United States, with a 7.7% share.

In China, crude groundnut oil imports expanded at an average annual rate of +11.7% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Italy (+0.2% per year) and the United States (+13.0% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average crude groundnut oil import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, dropping by -1.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a slight shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 36% against the previous year. Global import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in France ($X per ton) and Belgium ($X per ton), while Italy ($X per ton) and China ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
