In value terms, jute and jute-like fibers exports fell to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw a noticeable descent. Over the period under review, the global exports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Bangladesh represented the largest exporter of jute and jute-like fibers in the world, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 73% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by India (X tons), comprising a 14% share of total exports. Tanzania (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Bangladesh decreased at an average annual rate of -9.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Indonesia (+68.9%), Tanzania (+7.7%) and India (+4.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Indonesia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +68.9% from 2012-2022. Belgium experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2022, the share of India, Tanzania and Indonesia increased by +9.7, +2.4 and +2 percentage points, respectively. In value terms, Bangladesh ($X) remains the largest jute and jute-like fibers supplier worldwide, comprising 62% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($X), with a 14% share of global exports. It was followed by Tanzania, with a 5.1% share.

In Bangladesh, jute and jute-like fibers exports shrank by an average annual rate of -6.3% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: India (+8.9% per year) and Tanzania (+11.3% per year).

In 2022, the average jute and jute-like fibers export price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 5.7% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 22%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, jute and jute-like fibers imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, India (X tons) represented the major importer of jute and jute-like fibers, committing 47% of total imports. Pakistan (X tons) held a 21% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Nepal (7.5%) and China (5.8%). Brazil (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

India was also the fastest-growing in terms of the jute and jute-like fibers imports, with a CAGR of +4.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Brazil (+4.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Pakistan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Nepal (-8.1%) and China (-16.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period.
