After ten years of growth, the global mango and mangosteen market decreased by -3.4% to $X in 2022. In general, the total consumption indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the global market attained the maximum level at $X in 2021, and then reduced slightly in the following year.
Mango And Mangosteen Production
In value terms, mango and mangosteen production shrank slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, the total production indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -2.7% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the production volume increased by 19%. Global production peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.
India (X tons) remains the largest mango and mangosteen producing country worldwide, accounting for 45% of total volume. Moreover, mango and mangosteen production in India exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, China (X tons), sevenfold. Indonesia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total production with a 6.5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume in India totaled +4.4%. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: China (+3.3% per year) and Indonesia (+2.6% per year).
The global average mango and mangosteen yield reduced to X tons per ha in 2022, remaining stable against 2021. The yield figure increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the yield increased by 8%. The global yield peaked at X tons per ha in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the yield failed to regain momentum. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.
In 2022, approx. X ha of mangoes, mangosteens and guavas were harvested worldwide; which is down by -2.6% against the year before. In general, the harvested area, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the harvested area increased by 5.7%. Over the period under review, the harvested area dedicated to mango and mangosteen production attained the maximum at X ha in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

Exports
After six years of growth, shipments abroad of mangoes, mangosteens and guavas decreased by -12% to X tons in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +45.4% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 16% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, mango and mangosteen exports shrank to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 20%. The global exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.
Exports by Country
The biggest shipments were from Mexico (X tons), Thailand (X tons), Peru (X tons), Brazil (X tons), India (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons), together resulting at 66% of total export. It was distantly followed by Pakistan (X tons), achieving a 4.6% share of total exports. Ecuador (X tons), Spain (X tons), Egypt (X tons), Yemen (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) and China (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for China (with a CAGR of +27.3%), while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest mango and mangosteen supplying countries worldwide were Mexico ($X), Thailand ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), together comprising 41% of global exports. Peru, India, Brazil, Spain, Pakistan, Egypt, Ecuador, China, Cote d'Ivoire and Yemen lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 37%.
In terms of the main exporting countries, China, with a CAGR of +35.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average mango and mangosteen export price amounted to $X per ton, almost unchanged from the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.8%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 17%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while Yemen ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+9.0%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports
In 2022, supplies from abroad of mangoes, mangosteens and guavas decreased by -6% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after five years of growth. Overall, total imports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -6.6% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, global imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, mango and mangosteen imports dropped to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.9% over the last decade. Imports by Country
In 2022, the United States (X tons), distantly followed by China (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) represented the key importers of mangoes, mangosteens and guavas, together committing 50% of total imports. Germany (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons), the UK (X tons), Canada (X tons), Spain (X tons), France (X tons), Hong Kong SAR (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Portugal (X tons) held a little share of total imports.
Imports into the United States increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Russia (+18.2%), Spain (+10.8%), China (+8.5%), Portugal (+6.9%), France (+5.8%), the Netherlands (+5.4%), Germany (+5.2%), the UK (+4.8%), Canada (+3.4%) and Saudi Arabia (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Russia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +18.2% from 2012-2022. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-1.3%) and Hong Kong SAR (-7.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of China (+4.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the global imports from 2012-2022, the share of the United Arab Emirates (-2.9 p.p.) and Hong Kong SAR (-4.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest mango and mangosteen importing markets worldwide were the United States ($X), China ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), with a combined 47% share of global imports. The UK, Germany, Canada, France, Spain, Hong Kong SAR, the United Arab Emirates, Russia, Saudi Arabia and Portugal lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 33%.
Russia, with a CAGR of +19.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average mango and mangosteen import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -3.6% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.3%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average import price increased by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2021, and then dropped modestly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hong Kong SAR (+11.3%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
