After two years of decline, the global plain postcard market increased by 26% to $X in 2021. In general, the total consumption indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% over the last nine-year period. In value terms, plain postcard production reached $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, the total production indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production decreased by -14.1% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. Global production peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

After three years of decline, shipments abroad of letter cards, plain postcards and correspondence cards increased by 19% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a drastic downturn. Over the period under review, the global exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, plain postcard exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a pronounced contraction. The global exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
China (X tons) and the United States (X tons) represented roughly 49% of total exports in 2021. India (X tons) held a 12% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Spain (5.7%). Germany (X tons), the UK (X tons), Mexico (X tons), France (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by India (with a CAGR of +36.3%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest plain postcard supplying countries worldwide were China ($X), the United States ($X) and France ($X), together comprising 43% of global exports. The UK, Germany, the Netherlands, India, Spain, Malaysia, the Czech Republic and Mexico lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 32%.
India, with a CAGR of +40.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average plain postcard export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, reducing by -1.7% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.7%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 14% against the previous year. The global export price peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, purchases abroad of letter cards, plain postcards and correspondence cards increased by 2.2% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 6% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of global imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, plain postcard imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a perceptible downturn. Over the period under review, global imports reached the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, the United States (X tons), distantly followed by Canada (X tons), the UK (X tons), Mexico (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) represented the major importers of letter cards, plain postcards and correspondence cards, together making up 63% of total imports. Germany (X tons), Poland (X tons), Belgium (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Singapore (X tons), France (X tons) and Switzerland (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +25.2%), while imports for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United States ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported letter cards, plain postcards and correspondence cards worldwide, comprising 21% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Canada ($X), with a 10% share of global imports. It was followed by Germany, with an 8.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the United States totaled -6.6%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Canada (+1.5% per year) and Germany (-3.7% per year).

In 2021, the average plain postcard import price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 13% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 20%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while Mexico ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
