China (X tons) remains the largest rabbit meat producing country worldwide, accounting for 51% of total volume. Moreover, rabbit meat production in China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Democratic People's Republic of Korea (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Egypt (X tons), with a 7.6% share.

In China, rabbit meat production plunged by an average annual rate of -4.3% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Democratic People's Republic of Korea (-0.9% per year) and Egypt (+2.8% per year).

In 2022, the global average yield of rabbit or hare meat declined slightly to X kg per head, approximately mirroring the previous year. Overall, the yield, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the yield increased by 5.8%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 16%. The global exports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, rabbit meat exports reduced notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a noticeable curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the global exports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, Spain (X tons), distantly followed by Hungary (X tons), France (X tons), China (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the key exporters of rabbit or hare meat, together achieving 84% of total exports. The Netherlands (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported rabbit or hare meat worldwide, comprising 23% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belgium ($X), with an 8.6% share of global imports. It was followed by Italy, with an 8.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Germany was relatively modest. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (-7.9% per year) and Italy (-3.9% per year).
