The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 96% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the global exports hit record highs at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, sorghum exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 98% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the global exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

The United States represented the main exporting country with an export of about X tons, which reached 58% of total exports. Australia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 20% share, followed by Argentina (16%).

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to sorghum exports from the United States stood at +13.7%. At the same time, Australia (+27.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. In value terms, sorghum imports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 111% against the previous year. Global imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

China prevails in imports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. 84% of total imports in 2022. The following importers - Mexico (X tons) and Japan (X tons) - together made up 5.4% of total imports.

China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the sorghum imports, with a CAGR of +63.6% from 2012 to 2022. Mexico (-12.2%) and Japan (-16.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of China increased by +83 percentage points.
