In value terms, woolen fabric exports amounted to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 7.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the global exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, Italy (X square meters) represented the key exporter of woven woolen fabrics, mixing up 29% of total exports. Japan (X square meters) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 3% share, followed by Spain (9%), the UK (5.7%), China (15%) and Germany (5.5%). The following exporters - Japan (X square meters), the Czech Republic (X square meters), Portugal (X square meters), Turkey (X square meters), Denmark (X square meters), the United States (X square meters), Spain (X square meters), Hong Kong SAR (X square meters), Lithuania (X square meters), South Korea (X square meters) and France (X square meters) - together made up 30% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Denmark (with a CAGR of +13.8%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Italy ($X) remains the largest woolen fabric supplier worldwide, comprising 44% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with a 10% share of global exports. It was followed by the UK, with an 8.3% share.

In Italy, woolen fabric exports plunged by an average annual rate of -5.1% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: China (-11.2% per year) and the UK (-3.4% per year).

In 2021, the average woolen fabric export price amounted to $X per square meter, picking up by 2.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a pronounced curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 14% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per square meter. From 2019 to 2021, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, woolen fabric imports expanded sharply to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 9%. Global imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, China (X square meters), distantly followed by Romania (X square meters), Germany (X square meters), Morocco (X square meters), Spain (X square meters), France (X square meters) and Italy (X square meters) represented the key importers of woven woolen fabrics, together creating 44% of total imports. Vietnam (X square meters), Japan (X square meters), Bulgaria (X square meters), Morocco (X square meters), the United States (X square meters), Portugal (X square meters), Hong Kong SAR (X square meters), Poland (X square meters), Spain (X square meters), Turkey (X square meters), France (X square meters) and Italy (X square meters) held a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to woolen fabric imports into China stood at -1.3%. While the share of Spain (+3.3 p.p.), Morocco (+2.8 p.p.), China (+1.8 p.p.), France (+1.8 p.p.) and Portugal (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the global imports from 2012-2021, the share of Italy (-1.9 p.p.), Japan (-2.5 p.p.), Hong Kong SAR (-2.7 p.p.) and Turkey (-2.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported woven woolen fabrics worldwide, comprising 14% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($X), with a 5.7% share of global imports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 5.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in China totaled -5.8%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+0.9% per year) and Vietnam (-0.2% per year).

In 2021, the average woolen fabric import price amounted to $X per square meter, waning by -9.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a noticeable curtailment.
