In value terms, woolen yarn exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a mild slump. Over the period under review, the global exports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
China (X tons) and Italy (X tons) represented roughly 34% of total exports in 2021. Lithuania (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Germany (X tons), India (X tons), Hong Kong SAR (X tons) and Romania (X tons). All these countries together took near 28% share of total exports. The UK (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons), Poland (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Turkey (X tons) and Peru (X tons) held a little share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Lithuania (with a CAGR of +7.8%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest woolen yarn supplying countries worldwide were China ($X), Italy ($X) and Germany ($X), with a combined 55% share of global exports. These countries were followed by Hong Kong SAR, Romania, Peru, the UK, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, India, Poland, Bulgaria and Turkey, which together accounted for a further 30%.
Among the main exporting countries, Lithuania, with a CAGR of +6.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average woolen yarn export price amounted to $X per ton, approximately equating the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average export price increased by 18% against the previous year. The global export price peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while Lithuania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, Italy (X tons) and the UK (X tons) were the main importers of yarn of woolaround the world, together amounting to approx. 23% of total imports. Germany (X tons) held a 7% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Hong Kong SAR (5.4%) and the United States (5.1%). The following importers - Denmark (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), Norway (X tons), Australia (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Austria (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Japan (X tons) - together made up 23% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Vietnam (with a CAGR of +19.6%), while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest woolen yarn importing markets worldwide were Italy ($X), Hong Kong SAR ($X) and Germany ($X), with a combined 30% share of global imports. These countries were followed by the UK, the United States, Vietnam, Norway, Denmark, Japan, Austria, Australia, the Netherlands and Belgium, which together accounted for a further 30%.

The average woolen yarn import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, stabilizing at the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 11%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
