Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed slight growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 82%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, imports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres fell to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 35% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, India (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibre to Greece, with a 65% share of total imports. Moreover, imports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres from India exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Sri Lanka (X tons), twofold. Slovenia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 4.9% share.

The second position in the ranking was taken by Sri Lanka ($X), with a 23% share of total imports. It was followed by Slovenia, with a 20% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from India totaled +8.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Sri Lanka (-0.9% per year) and Slovenia (+54.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average import price for coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 28% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate perceptible growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 42% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Slovenia ($X per ton), while the price for India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+35.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
