Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Italy ($X per ton) and Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Japan ($X per ton) and Oman ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

Imports into Greece
In 2022, overseas purchases of cottonseed increased by 72% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, showed a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 109% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, cottonseed imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a deep downturn. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Spain (X tons) constituted the largest cottonseed supplier to Greece, accounting for a 60% share of total imports. Moreover, cottonseed imports from Spain exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, France (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Turkey (X tons), with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Spain stood at -2.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+16.6% per year) and Turkey (-23.7% per year).
In value terms, the largest cottonseed suppliers to Greece were Spain ($X), France ($X) and Israel ($X), with a combined 91% share of total imports.
