In 2021, electronic chip exports from Greece soared to X units, surging by 153% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, exports posted significant growth. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, electronic chip exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports posted a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 99%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Germany (X units), Romania (X units) and Cyprus (X units) were the main destinations of electronic chip exports from Greece, with a combined 73% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Thailand, the Netherlands, China, the United States and Bulgaria, which together accounted for a further 20%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Thailand (with a CAGR of +307.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Cyprus ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for electronic chips exports from Greece, comprising 42% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Bulgaria, with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Cyprus amounted to +54.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+28.3% per year) and Bulgaria (+29.8% per year).

The average electronic chip export price stood at $X per unit in 2021, reducing by -39.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 54%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2018 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bulgaria ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Romania (less than $X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bulgaria (+46.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Greece

For the fourth year in a row, Greece recorded growth in overseas purchases of electronic chips, which increased by 27% to X units in 2021. In general, total imports indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +103.1% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 42% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, electronic chip imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +120.2% against 2017 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Germany (X units) constituted the largest supplier of electronic chip to Greece, with a 56% share of total imports. Moreover, electronic chip imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X units), fivefold. Turkey (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Germany stood at +7.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+4.3% per year) and Turkey (+43.2% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of electronic chips to Greece, comprising 38% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Netherlands ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Turkey, with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Germany totaled +13.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (+6.9% per year) and Turkey (+79.9% per year).

The average electronic chip import price stood at $X per thousand units in 2021, rising by 16% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.7%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average import price increased by 25%. The import price peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Cyprus ($X per thousand units), while the price for Italy ($X per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.
