Ether Market Size in Greece

The Greek ether market skyrocketed to $X in 2022, picking up by 160% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). In general, consumption saw significant growth. Ether consumption peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

For the fourth year in a row, Greece recorded growth in shipments abroad of ethers, which increased by 61% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, faced a sharp shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 379% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, ether exports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 307%. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Turkey (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main destinations of ether exports from Greece, with a combined 80% share of total exports. The United States, Serbia, Romania and North Macedonia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 18%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Serbia (with a CAGR of +66.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Turkey ($X), Bulgaria ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) constituted the largest markets for ether exported from Greece worldwide, with a combined 77% share of total exports. The United States, Serbia, Romania and North Macedonia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 21%.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Serbia, with a CAGR of +68.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average ether export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by -13.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 50%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Bulgaria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to North Macedonia (+9.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, ether imports into Greece soared to X tons, picking up by 176% against the year before. In general, imports enjoyed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 985% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Ireland, with a CAGR of +135.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average ether import price amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -17.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a pronounced downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the average import price increased by 106%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
