The Greek wood flat pallet market rose significantly to $X in 2021, with an increase of 9.2% against the previous year. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Italy (X units), Bulgaria (X units) and Germany (X units) were the main destinations of wood flat pallet exports from Greece, with a combined 52% share of total exports. Cyprus, Romania, France, Austria, Sweden, Poland and Spain lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 34%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for France (with a CAGR of +30.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Sweden ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Overall, total imports indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +43.8% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 71%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, wood flat pallet imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +100.8% against 2012 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 28% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Bulgaria (X units) constituted the largest wood flat pallet supplier to Greece, accounting for a 59% share of total imports. Moreover, wood flat pallet imports from Bulgaria exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Romania (X units), sixfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Albania (X units), with a 7.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Bulgaria stood at +7.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Romania (+5.0% per year) and Albania (+32.6% per year).

In value terms, Bulgaria ($X) constituted the largest supplier of flat pallets and pallet collars of wood to Greece, comprising 62% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Romania ($X), with a 6.7% share of total imports. It was followed by Albania, with a 6.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Bulgaria totaled +11.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Romania (+4.2% per year) and Albania (+37.0% per year).

The average wood flat pallet import price stood at $X per unit in 2021, jumping by 18% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a noticeable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 44%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while the price for Romania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
