In 2021, shipments abroad of halogenated derivatives of aromatic hydrocarbons decreased by -43.4% to X tons, falling for the fourth year in a row after six years of growth. In general, exports, however, recorded resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 383%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives exports reduced remarkably to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, posted significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 1,091% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Bulgaria (X tons) was the main destination for aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives exports from Greece, with a 70% share of total exports. Moreover, aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives exports to Bulgaria exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Cyprus (X tons), twofold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Bulgaria amounted to +40.8%.
In value terms, Bulgaria ($X) and Cyprus ($X) constituted the largest markets for aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives exported from Greece worldwide.
Cyprus, with a CAGR of +91.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review.

In 2021, the average aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives export price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -21.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, enjoyed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 185%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Cyprus ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Bulgaria stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Romania (+161.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Greece
In 2021, purchases abroad of halogenated derivatives of aromatic hydrocarbons decreased by -50.2% to X tons, falling for the third year in a row after three years of growth. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 1,684%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives imports declined significantly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 2,128% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
The Netherlands (X tons), Italy (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main suppliers of aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives imports to Greece, together comprising 56% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +64.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) constituted the largest supplier of halogenated derivatives of aromatic hydrocarbons to Greece, comprising 40% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Portugal, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the Netherlands totaled +89.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+10.8% per year) and Portugal (+54.6% per year).

In 2021, the average aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives import price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 54% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 59%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while the price for Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+77.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
