The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 28%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, knitted fabric exports rose modestly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 5.8%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Turkey (X tons), North Macedonia (X tons) and Bulgaria (X tons) were the main destinations of knitted fabric exports from Greece, with a combined 60% share of total exports. Italy, Albania, Tunisia, France, Serbia, Russia and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 32%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Russia (with a CAGR of +52.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Bulgaria ($X) remains the key foreign market for knitted or crocheted fabrics exports from Greece, comprising 30% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by North Macedonia ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Turkey, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Bulgaria stood at -3.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: North Macedonia (-4.1% per year) and Turkey (+34.5% per year).

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Albania ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 27% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, knitted fabric imports expanded markedly to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 21%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Turkey (X tons), China (X tons) and Bulgaria (X tons) were the main suppliers of knitted fabric imports to Greece, with a combined 88% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by China (with a CAGR of +28.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest knitted fabric suppliers to Greece were Turkey ($X), China ($X) and Bulgaria ($X), with a combined 84% share of total imports.
