Plastic Bag Market Size in Greece

The Greek plastic bag market declined slightly to $X in 2022, flattening at the previous year. In general, consumption recorded a deep setback. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +92.1% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 37%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Italy (X tons), Cyprus (X tons) and Bulgaria (X tons) were the main destinations of plastic bag exports from Greece, together comprising 48% of total exports. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 26% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for North Macedonia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
