In 2022, the Greek pork market increased by 14% to $X for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Bulgaria (X tons), Cyprus (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main destinations of pork exports from Greece, with a combined 64% share of total exports. Albania, the UK, Romania, Bahamas, Malta, Italy, Turkey, Sweden and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 31%.

Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 9.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

The Netherlands (X tons), Germany (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main suppliers of pork imports to Greece, together comprising 77% of total imports. Spain, Denmark, Belgium and Bulgaria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 19%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Bulgaria (with a CAGR of +23.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
