Over the period under review, the total production indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production increased by +14.6% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 46%. Over the period under review, production attained the maximum level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports from Greece

In 2022, approx. X units of refrigerated show-caseses were exported from Greece; declining by -23.1% against 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 33% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, refrigerated show-cases exports contracted to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 44% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Cyprus (X units) was the main destination for refrigerated show-cases exports from Greece, with a 43% share of total exports. Moreover, refrigerated show-cases exports to Cyprus exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Israel (X units), fourfold. The Netherlands (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 6.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Cyprus amounted to +10.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Israel (+14.6% per year) and the Netherlands (+14.7% per year).

In value terms, Israel ($X), Cyprus ($X) and France ($X) were the largest markets for refrigerated show-cases exported from Greece worldwide, together accounting for 47% of total exports. The UK, Germany, Romania, the Netherlands, Italy, Belgium and Norway lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 28%.

Among the main countries of destination, Belgium, with a CAGR of +36.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average refrigerated show-cases export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, jumping by 19% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, refrigerated show-cases export price increased by +38.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 43%. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Cyprus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+10.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Greece

In 2022, supplies from abroad of refrigerated show-caseses decreased by -2.7% to X units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 68%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, refrigerated show-cases imports fell slightly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +32.9% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 49% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

Imports by Country

The Czech Republic (X units), China (X units) and Italy (X units) were the main suppliers of refrigerated show-cases imports to Greece, with a combined 68% share of total imports. Romania, Turkey, Thailand, Germany, India, Austria and Bulgaria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 27%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for India (with a CAGR of +74.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Italy ($X), Turkey ($X) and China ($X) constituted the largest refrigerated show-cases suppliers to Greece, with a combined 48% share of total imports. The Czech Republic, Romania, India, Thailand, Austria, Germany and Bulgaria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 35%.

In terms of the main suppliers, India, with a CAGR of +63.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average refrigerated show-cases import price amounted to $X per unit, rising by 2.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a noticeable expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the average import price increased by 43% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per unit), while the price for the Czech Republic ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+17.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
