For the third consecutive year, Greece recorded decline in supplies from abroad of frozen sweet corn, which decreased by -14.1% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports faced a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, frozen sweet corn imports fell to $X in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 22%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Hungary (X tons), Serbia (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) were the main suppliers of frozen sweet corn imports to Greece, together comprising 72% of total imports. These countries were followed by Moldova, Turkey, Germany and Bulgaria, which together accounted for a further 25%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Turkey (with a CAGR of +62.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
