In 2021, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in the Greek telecommunications instrument market, when its value decreased by -18% to $X. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a buoyant expansion. In 2021, telecommunications instrument exports from Greece surged to X units, with an increase of 85% compared with the previous year. In general, exports recorded a mild increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 317% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, telecommunications instrument exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 172%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Cyprus (X units) was the main destination for telecommunications instrument exports from Greece, with a 60% share of total exports. Moreover, telecommunications instrument exports to Cyprus exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the UK (X units), threefold. France (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 7.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Cyprus was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the UK (+172.4% per year) and France (+99.2% per year).
In value terms, Cyprus ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for telecommunications instruments exports from Greece, comprising 58% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the UK ($X), with a 22% share of total exports. It was followed by the United States, with an 8.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Cyprus totaled +8.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the UK (+98.4% per year) and the United States (+5.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average telecommunications instrument export price amounted to $X per unit, falling by -16.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 133% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2016 to 2021, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to France ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+19.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Greece
After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of telecommunications instruments decreased by -16.1% to X units in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 146%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X units in 2020, and then fell sharply in the following year.
In value terms, telecommunications instrument imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +75.4% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 96% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
The Netherlands (X units), Germany (X units) and the UK (X units) were the main suppliers of telecommunications instrument imports to Greece, together comprising 64% of total imports. These countries were followed by Denmark, the United States, China, Spain and France, which together accounted for a further 27%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Denmark (with a CAGR of +113.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) constituted the largest supplier of telecommunications instruments to Greece, comprising 42% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by the United States, with a 6.4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the Netherlands stood at +7.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (-1.7% per year) and the United States (-0.8% per year).

In 2021, the average telecommunications instrument import price amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 39% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a drastic downturn. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per unit), while the price for Denmark ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+7.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
