In 2021, purchases abroad of tyres for aircraft was finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, faced a abrupt shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 70% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, aircraft tyre imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, faced a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 66% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, the Netherlands (X units) constituted the largest supplier of aircraft tyre to Greece, with a 76% share of total imports. Moreover, aircraft tyre imports from the Netherlands exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the UK (X units), sevenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by the United States (X units), with a 9.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from the Netherlands amounted to -1.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the UK (-25.9% per year) and the United States (-3.6% per year).
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) constituted the largest supplier of tyres for aircraft to Greece, comprising 67% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United States ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by the UK, with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from the Netherlands amounted to -4.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (+3.0% per year) and the UK (-22.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average aircraft tyre import price amounted to $X per unit, declining by -10.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, enjoyed a moderate increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 180%. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while the price for the Netherlands ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
