Vermouth Market Size in Greece

The Greek vermouth market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2022, after two years of decline. Overall, consumption, however, recorded a noticeable downturn. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 258% against the previous year. In 2022, overseas purchases of vermouth increased by 19% to X litres for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, showed a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 35%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X litres. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, vermouth imports soared to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a noticeable descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, Spain (X litres) constituted the largest supplier of vermouth to Greece, with a 66% share of total imports. Moreover, vermouth imports from Spain exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Italy (X litres), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Germany (X litres), with a 5.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Spain stood at -2.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (-5.5% per year) and Germany (-14.4% per year).

The average vermouth import price stood at $X per litre in 2022, surging by 3.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 55% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per litre. From 2019 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per litre), while the price for Spain ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
