As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Italy (X units) was the main destination for women knitwear exports from Greece, with a 36% share of total exports. Moreover, women knitwear exports to Italy exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Hungary (X units), threefold. Bulgaria (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 12% share.

Over the period under review, imports saw a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 152%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, women knitwear imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +8.4% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 45% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, China (X units) constituted the largest women knitwear supplier to Greece, accounting for a 49% share of total imports. Moreover, women knitwear imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Bulgaria (X units), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Spain (X units), with a 7.5% share.
