In 2021, the Greek x-ray tube market was finally on the rise to reach $X after two years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a deep setback. X-ray tube consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Exports from Greece
For the fourth year in a row, Greece recorded growth in overseas shipments of x-ray tubes, which increased by 106% to X units in 2021. In general, exports enjoyed a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 169%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
In value terms, x-ray tube exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a buoyant increase. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
France (X units) was the main destination for x-ray tube exports from Greece, with a 76% share of total exports. Moreover, x-ray tube exports to France exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Poland (X units), fivefold. Turkey (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 3.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to France stood at +27.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (0.0% per year) and Turkey (0.0% per year).
In value terms, France ($X), Poland ($X) and Turkey ($X) constituted the largest markets for x-ray tube exported from Greece worldwide, together comprising 65% of total exports. These countries were followed by Hungary and Germany, which together accounted for a further 3.9%.
Among the main countries of destination, Hungary, with a CAGR of +52.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average x-ray tube export price stood at $X per unit in 2021, increasing by 3.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average export price increased by 167%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to France ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hungary (+42.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Greece
In 2021, purchases abroad of x-ray tubes was finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 83%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, x-ray tube imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a pronounced curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, the Netherlands (X units) constituted the largest x-ray tube supplier to Greece, accounting for a 53% share of total imports. Moreover, x-ray tube imports from the Netherlands exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, France (X units), twofold. Germany (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the Netherlands stood at +15.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+0.5% per year) and Germany (-15.1% per year).
In value terms, the largest x-ray tube suppliers to Greece were the Netherlands ($X), France ($X) and Germany ($X), together accounting for 90% of total imports. Denmark and Turkey lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 3.8%.
In terms of the main suppliers, Denmark, with a CAGR of +89.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average x-ray tube import price amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a perceptible decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average import price increased by 27%. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
