Honduras (X tons), Nicaragua (X tons) and El Salvador (X tons) were the main destinations of halogenated hydrocarbon derivative exports from Guatemala, with a combined 98% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by El Salvador (with a CAGR of +20.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for halogenated hydrocarbon derivative exported from Guatemala were Honduras ($X), El Salvador ($X) and Nicaragua ($X), together comprising 85% of total exports.

Imports into Guatemala
For the third year in a row, Guatemala recorded growth in overseas purchases of halogenated derivatives of hydrocarbons, which increased by 44% to X tons in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +33.8% against 2018 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, halogenated hydrocarbon derivative imports soared to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +96.8% against 2020 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest halogenated hydrocarbon derivative supplier to Guatemala, with a 75% share of total imports. Moreover, halogenated hydrocarbon derivative imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Netherlands (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by India (X tons), with a 7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +14.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (-3.7% per year) and India (+7.6% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of halogenated derivatives of hydrocarbons to Guatemala, comprising 74% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United States ($X), with a 7.9% share of total imports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 5.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China amounted to +13.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (+10.5% per year) and the Netherlands (+0.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average halogenated hydrocarbon derivative import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 16% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a slight decline. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+54.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
