Linseed Market Size in Guatemala

In 2022, the Guatemalan linseed market decreased by -3.4% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, the total consumption indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption increased by +134.6% against 2018 indices. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

In 2022, shipments abroad of linseed decreased by -21.5% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 69% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, linseed exports rose rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 94% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Panama (X tons), Nicaragua (X tons) and El Salvador (X tons) were the main destinations of linseed exports from Guatemala, with a combined 95% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Nicaragua (with a CAGR of +70.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for linseed exported from Guatemala were Nicaragua ($X), Panama ($X) and El Salvador ($X), together accounting for 96% of total exports.

Nicaragua, with a CAGR of +107.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average linseed export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 36% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price posted resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 81% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Nicaragua ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to El Salvador ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Nicaragua (+21.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Guatemala

For the third consecutive year, Guatemala recorded decline in supplies from abroad of linseed, which decreased by -17.6% to X tons in 2022. In general, total imports indicated modest growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -24.1% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 89%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, linseed imports shrank modestly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 82% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Canada (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of linseed to Guatemala, accounting for a 66% share of total imports. Moreover, linseed imports from Canada exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Ukraine (X tons), threefold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Canada was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ukraine (0.0% per year) and Argentina (-11.3% per year).

In value terms, Canada ($X) constituted the largest supplier of linseed to Guatemala, comprising 72% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ukraine ($X), with a 19% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Canada amounted to +6.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ukraine (0.0% per year) and Argentina (-7.2% per year).

The average linseed import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 21% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, linseed import price increased by +98.2% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 39% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($X per ton), while the price for Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (+5.3%).
