For the fifth year in a row, Hong Kong SAR recorded decline in shipments abroad of ceramic tiles, which decreased by -53.7% to X square meters in 2022. In general, exports faced a deep reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 221%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X square meters. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, ceramic tile exports fell remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 52%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
China (X square meters), Macao SAR (X square meters) and Malaysia (X square meters) were the main destinations of ceramic tile exports from Hong Kong SAR, together comprising 94% of total exports. The Philippines lagged somewhat behind, accounting for a further 1.9%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the Philippines (with a CAGR of +3.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, China ($X), Macao SAR ($X) and Malaysia ($X) constituted the largest markets for ceramic tile exported from Hong Kong SAR worldwide, together accounting for 93% of total exports.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per square meter), while the average price for exports to the Philippines ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, imports of ceramic tiles into Hong Kong SAR shrank notably to X square meters, reducing by -23.8% compared with the year before. In general, imports recorded a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 21%. Imports peaked at X square meters in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, ceramic tile imports shrank to $X in 2022. Overall, imports showed a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 20% against the previous year. China (X square meters), Italy (X square meters) and Spain (X square meters) were the main suppliers of ceramic tile imports to Hong Kong SAR, with a combined 92% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Italy (with a CAGR of -4.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.

Overall, import price indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, ceramic tile import price increased by +40.6% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 77%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from Italy ($X per square meter) and Spain ($X per square meter), while the price for Japan ($X per square meter) and China ($X per square meter) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+8.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
