In value terms, hot-rolled non-alloy steel wire rod exports contracted significantly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 224% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Ethiopia (X tons) was the main destination for hot-rolled non-alloy steel wire rod exports from Hong Kong SAR, with a 48% share of total exports. Over the period under review, total imports indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Moreover, hot-rolled non-alloy steel wire rod imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Saudi Arabia (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by India (X tons), with a 14% share.
