The Hong Kong market for jams, jellies, puree and pastes dropped sharply to $X in 2021, waning by -19.6% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, enjoyed strong growth. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X, and then declined notably in the following year.

In value terms, jam, jelly, puree and paste production declined rapidly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, showed a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the production volume increased by 157% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X, and then declined remarkably in the following year.

In 2021, overseas shipments of jams, jellies, puree and pastes were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a modest increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 86% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, jam, jelly, puree and paste exports rose markedly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports showed a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 123%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
China (X tons) was the main destination for jam, jelly, puree and paste exports from Hong Kong SAR, with a 88% share of total exports. Moreover, jam, jelly, puree and paste exports to China exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Macao SAR (X tons), eightfold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to China stood at +8.6%.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the key foreign market for jams, jellies, puree and pastes exports from Hong Kong SAR, comprising 85% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Macao SAR ($X), with a 13% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to China stood at +17.4%.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average export price for jams, jellies, puree and pastes amounted to $X per ton, surging by 4.3% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, jam, jelly, puree and paste export price increased by +3.4% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average export price increased by 20%. The export price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Macao SAR ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to China stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Vietnam (+161.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Jams, Jellies, Puree And Pastes
Imports into Hong Kong SAR, China
In 2021, supplies from abroad of jams, jellies, puree and pastes was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Imports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, jam, jelly, puree and paste imports surged to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
China (X tons), the UK (X tons) and Japan (X tons) were the main suppliers of jam, jelly, puree and paste imports to Hong Kong SAR, together accounting for 34% of total imports. These countries were followed by France, the United States, Taiwan (Chinese), the Philippines, Italy, Spain, South Korea, South Africa, Belgium and Germany, which together accounted for a further 54%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Spain (with a CAGR of +49.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest jam, jelly, puree and paste suppliers to Hong Kong SAR were China ($X), Japan ($X) and France ($X), together comprising 45% of total imports. The UK, the United States, Taiwan (Chinese), Spain, Italy, the Philippines, Germany, South Korea, Belgium and South Africa lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 44%.
In terms of the main suppliers, Spain, with a CAGR of +57.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average import price for jams, jellies, puree and pastes stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 12% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +5.1%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while the price for South Africa ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+12.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
