In 2022, purchases abroad of paddy rice increased by 9.6% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. Overall, imports, however, saw a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 932% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, paddy rice imports dropped to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a pronounced reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 1,054%. The average paddy rice import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -15.2% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last decade.
