In 2022, overseas shipments of pipes and other articles of cement decreased by -18.9% to X tons, falling for the third consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a measured increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 94% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, cement pipe exports shrank to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed a slight descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 100%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

China (X tons) was the main destination for cement pipe exports from Hong Kong SAR, with a 84% share of total exports. Moreover, cement pipe exports to China exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), more than tenfold. Macao SAR (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 2.6% share.

The second position in the ranking was taken by Mexico ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Taiwan (Chinese), with a 7.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to China stood at +20.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Mexico (+141.3% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+2.0% per year).

In 2022, the average cement pipe export price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 12% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a abrupt setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 32%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

For the fourth year in a row, Hong Kong SAR recorded growth in overseas purchases of pipes and other articles of cement, which increased by 1.1% to X tons in 2022. In general, total imports indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +32.0% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 20% against the previous year.
