Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 65% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports of remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, exports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers rose slightly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 52%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

France (X units), the UK (X units) and Germany (X units) were the main destinations of exports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers from Hungary, with a combined 65% share of total exports. Poland, Belgium, Turkey, Portugal and Ukraine lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 23%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Portugal (with a CAGR of +81.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In general, total imports indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -25.7% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 26% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, imports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers reduced to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Slovakia (X units) constituted the largest aluminium cask, drum, can, box and similar container supplier to Hungary, accounting for a 40% share of total imports. Moreover, imports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers from Slovakia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Poland (X units), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Romania (X units), with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Slovakia was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+7.5% per year) and Romania (+275.3% per year).

In value terms, Slovakia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers to Hungary, comprising 40% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Austria, with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Slovakia stood at +1.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+4.5% per year) and Austria (-4.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average import price for aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers amounted to $X per unit, rising by 7.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 7.8%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per unit), while the price for Romania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
