The Hungarian animal fats market dropped to $X in 2021, waning by -12.8% against the previous year. In 2021, overseas purchases of animal fats and oils were finally on the rise to reach X tons after four years of decline. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 67% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, animal fats imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports posted a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 84% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In 2021, Slovakia (X tons) constituted the largest animal fats supplier to Hungary, with a 84% share of total imports. Moreover, animal fats imports from Slovakia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Poland (X tons), eightfold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Slovakia totaled +23.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+84.6% per year) and Germany (-13.5% per year).

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+7.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
