Apple Market Size in Hungary

The Hungarian apple market totaled $X in 2021, leveling off at the previous year. In general, consumption, however, recorded a perceptible shrinkage. Apple consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, apple production dropped to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, showed a pronounced slump. In 2021, exports of apples from Hungary stood at X tons, remaining stable against 2020. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 119%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, apple exports dropped slightly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt decrease. Over the period under review, export price indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, apple export price increased by +53.3% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 261% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, apple imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. Overall, imports posted strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 159%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Poland (X tons), Serbia (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of apple imports to Hungary, with a combined 83% share of total imports. Austria, France, Slovakia, Spain, Romania and Croatia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 14%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for France (with a CAGR of +110.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
