Beer Market Size in Hungary

The Hungarian beer market dropped modestly to $X in 2022, almost unchanged from the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Beer consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 55%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, beer exports fell modestly to $X in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +44.0% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 90%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, imports of beer into Hungary expanded to X tons, surging by 2.7% against 2021 figures. In general, total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +69.1% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while the price for Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
