In 2021, the Hungarian chocolate bar with filling market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year declining trend. Overall, consumption, however, recorded a perceptible contraction. Chocolate bar with filling consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production decreased by -32.7% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the production volume increased by 165%. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2016 to 2021, production growth failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, shipments abroad of chocolate bars with fillings decreased by -17.1% to X tons for the first time since 2015, thus ending a five-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 131% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, chocolate bar with filling exports shrank to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, posted a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 107%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.
Exports by Country
Germany (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Romania (X tons) were the main destinations of chocolate bar with filling exports from Hungary, with a combined 47% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Slovakia, Serbia, the Czech Republic, Italy, Spain, Bulgaria, Croatia, Ukraine, Sweden and Belgium, which together accounted for a further 42%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Sweden (with a CAGR of +231.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X), Slovakia ($X) and Romania ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for chocolate bar with filling exported from Hungary worldwide, together comprising 44% of total exports. Poland, Serbia, the Czech Republic, Italy, Spain, Croatia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Sweden and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 43%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Sweden, with a CAGR of +195.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average chocolate bar with filling export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 11% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a perceptible contraction. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Sweden ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Czech Republic (+2.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Hungary
In 2021, after nine years of growth, there was decline in supplies from abroad of chocolate bars with fillings, when their volume decreased by -0.9% to X tons. Over the period under review, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +56.6% against 2012 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 15%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then reduced slightly in the following year.
In value terms, chocolate bar with filling imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +51.7% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 18%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
Germany (X tons), Austria (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons) were the main suppliers of chocolate bar with filling imports to Hungary, with a combined 60% share of total imports. The Netherlands, Poland, Ukraine, Bulgaria and the Czech Republic lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 36%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Ukraine (with a CAGR of +108.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of chocolate bars with fillings to Hungary, comprising 37% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Slovakia ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Austria, with a 14% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Germany totaled +6.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Slovakia (-1.8% per year) and Austria (+32.0% per year).

In 2021, the average chocolate bar with filling import price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 7.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
