In 2016, shipments abroad of coniferous wood in the rough was finally on the rise to reach X cubic meters after two years of decline. In general, total exports indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2016: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last four-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2016 figures, exports decreased by -24.0% against 2013 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 50%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X cubic meters. From 2014 to 2016, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, coniferous wood in the rough exports totaled $X in 2016. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a noticeable decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 45%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2016, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Austria (X cubic meters) was the main destination for coniferous wood in the rough exports from Hungary, accounting for a 79% share of total exports. Moreover, coniferous wood in the rough exports to Austria exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Romania (X cubic meters), fivefold. Slovenia (X cubic meters) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 2.3% share.
From 2012 to 2016, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Austria stood at -1.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Romania (+426.8% per year) and Slovenia (-6.3% per year).
In value terms, Austria ($X) remains the key foreign market for coniferous wood in the rough exports from Hungary, comprising 79% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Romania ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Slovenia, with a 3.4% share.
From 2012 to 2016, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Austria amounted to -6.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Romania (+339.5% per year) and Slovenia (-7.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2016, the average export price for coniferous wood in the rough amounted to $X per cubic meter, with a decrease of -8.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a deep downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 12%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per cubic meter. From 2015 to 2016, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Slovenia ($X per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Slovakia ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2016, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovakia (+4.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Imports of Coniferous Wood In The Rough
Imports into Hungary
For the third consecutive year, Hungary recorded growth in purchases abroad of coniferous wood in the rough, which increased by 11% to X cubic meters in 2016. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% from 2012 to 2016; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 18%. Imports peaked in 2016 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, coniferous wood in the rough imports amounted to $X in 2016. Overall, imports, however, showed a pronounced reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2016, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Ukraine (X cubic meters), Slovakia (X cubic meters) and Belarus (X cubic meters) were the main suppliers of coniferous wood in the rough imports to Hungary, together accounting for 100% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2016, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Slovakia (with a CAGR of +48.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, Ukraine ($X), Slovakia ($X) and Belarus ($X) appeared to be the largest coniferous wood in the rough suppliers to Hungary, with a combined 100% share of total imports.
Belarus, with a CAGR of +18.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
Import Prices by Country
The average import price for coniferous wood in the rough stood at $X per cubic meter in 2016, declining by -2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average import price increased by 3.5%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per cubic meter. From 2015 to 2016, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2016, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per cubic meter), while the price for Slovakia ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
