In value terms, cow peas exports contracted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 290%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Romania (X tons) was the main destination for cow peas exports from Hungary, with a 95% share of total exports. Moreover, cow peas exports to Romania exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Bulgaria (X tons), more than tenfold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Romania totaled +11.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bulgaria (-6.0% per year) and Slovakia (-35.3% per year).
In value terms, Romania ($X) remains the key foreign market for cow peas (dry) exports from Hungary, comprising 95% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Bulgaria ($X), with a 4.6% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Romania totaled +14.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bulgaria (+1.7% per year) and Slovakia (-34.4% per year).

From 2014 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bulgaria (+8.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Hungary
After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of cow peas (dry) decreased by -56.1% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a noticeable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 137% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then declined markedly in the following year.
In value terms, cow peas imports contracted dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed noticeable growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 219%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Slovakia (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of cow peas to Hungary, with a 49% share of total imports. Moreover, cow peas imports from Slovakia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Bulgaria (X tons), threefold. Canada (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 18% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Slovakia stood at +262.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Bulgaria (+26.0% per year) and Canada (+14.5% per year).
In value terms, Slovakia ($X), Canada ($X) and Serbia ($X) constituted the largest cow peas suppliers to Hungary, together accounting for 72% of total imports.
Among the main suppliers, Slovakia, with a CAGR of +228.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average cow peas import price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 23% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a mild decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the average import price increased by 35%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Serbia ($X per ton), while the price for Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
