The Hungarian market for crispbread, rusks and toasted bread was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2022, after three years of decline. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, crispbread, rusk and toasted bread exports dropped to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 153%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

Exports by Country

Romania (X tons) was the main destination for crispbread, rusk and toasted bread exports from Hungary, accounting for a 50% share of total exports. Moreover, crispbread, rusk and toasted bread exports to Romania exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Slovakia (X tons), fourfold. The Czech Republic (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Romania stood at +24.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Slovakia (+4.2% per year) and the Czech Republic (+0.0% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for crispbread, rusk and toasted bread exported from Hungary were Romania ($X), Slovakia ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X), with a combined 61% share of total exports. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 72% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
